BFFS M(atrix)-theory mini course

Abstract: Matrix theory offers a powerful path towards a non-perturbative description of M-theory. In the three lectures of this mini-course, we start by reviewing the motivation behind the BFSS conjecture and its relation with 11-dimensional physics. Afterwards, we focus on its relation with the worldvolume theory of M2-branes and related formulations. Lastly, we outline recent developments concerning the M5-brane and conclude with an outlook on possible future directions.

The mini course will consist of three lectures, of about 2 hours each, to be held at LMU in the following dates:

  • Wed, Oct 21: 12–2 pm, room A449 (extending our usual Lunch Seminar slot)
  • Thu, Oct 22: 2–3:45 pm, room A348 (extending our usual Group Seminar slot)
  • Fri, Oct 23: 2–4 pm, room A249

The course is given by Manuel Artime (MPP), Thomas Raml (LMU) and Ralph Blumenhagen (MPP).
