(30.01.) 4d N=1 theories of quantum gravity beyond weak coupling

In this talk, I will consider 4d N=1 theories of gravity obtained as compactifications of heterotic string, F- or M-theory and investigate their strong coupling behavior. In particular, I will discuss the fate of classical strong coupling singularities in the field space of these theories at the perturbative and non-perturbative quantum level. I will then relate the resulting phase structure of the field space with the spectrum of light states in the low-energy effective action highlighting the similarities and differences to theories with extended supersymmetry.
