I will give an overview over some recent progress in the understanding of moduli space curvature divergences and their relation with gravity decoupling limits. I will focus on the vector multiplet sector of 4d N=2 theories, obtained by compactifying type II string theory on a Calabi-Yau manifold, and argue that a divergence in the scalar curvature of the moduli space signals a limit in which some rigid theory sector stays dynamical while gravity is decoupled. I will also comment on the relation between these 4d rigid sectors and higher dimensional rigid theories. Finally, I will discuss how curvature divergences are related to divergences of charge-to-mass ratios of BPS particles.
