I will review D-branes from a supergravity perspective, in a hopefully pedagogical manner. Then I will discuss bound states of branes and point out that there is a simple gap in our understanding. Namely that of D(-1)/D7 bound states. I will discuss the relevance of these bound states, for instance as a system to understand BPS instantons in 8D SYM. Then I will describe a recent paper in which we construct such bound state solutions for the first time. I end with speculating on how holography works for D(-1) brane stacks, and how the D(-1)/D7 background could lead to a notion of zero-dimensional scaling invariance; that is a theory of random matrices (0-d field theory) with the notion of conformal invariance.
