Dynamical symmetry enhancement near horizons (27.03.)

George Papadopoulos (King's College)

27.03.2014 at 16:15

It is known for sometime that extreme black holes and branes exhibit
(super)symmetry enhancement near horizons. This observation underpins
AdS/CFT and many of the conformal techniques that have been used
for black hole micro-state counting. I shall demonstrate that this symmetry
enhancement is a rather generic dynamical phenomenon which relies on the
smoothness of the field configurations. The proof involves generalizations of
the Lichnerowicz theorem and the use of index theory.
