(22.04.) Wormholes in Holography and the Swampland

Jacob McNamara (Harvard U.)

Recent work in the holography community has sharpened our understanding of wormholes in quantum gravity, and the threat they pose to the locality and unitarity of the holographically dual system. After reviewing this recent progress, we argue that this threat may be evaded, provided that certain kinematic constraints are satisfied. These constraints are examples of Swampland conditions, and place strong restrictions on the allowed properties of holographic theories of quantum gravity. We locate these constraints within the growing web of Swampland conditions, and show how they give a new perspective on previously known kinematic constraints.
