On the Uses of Multicentered Solutions

We review our recent works studying multicentered solutions (preserving 4 supercharges) of four and five dimensional supergravity. These geometries can be related to microstates of N=2 black holes either via AdS/CFT or via direct quantization of the BPS supergravity phase space. We follow both approaches in order to study the spacetime structure of these states. In quantizing these solutions we discover novel quantum effects that, surprisingly, stretch over macroscopic distances resolving a puzzle in the literature arising from infinitely deep, smooth supergravity throats. We also estimate the number of states arising from quantizing supergravity modes and present arguments that these are not sufficient to account for the entropy of a macroscopic black hole. Time permitting we will discuss AdS/CFT aspects of these solutions and the Entropy Enigma of Denef-Moore.
